Born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 7, 1930, Barry Newman’s first acting role on stage was in the 1957 Herman Wouk comedy ທາງ ທຳ ມະຊາດ, in which he played a jazz musician. His first film role was the gangster-themed Pretty Boy Floyd in 1960. In addition to his wife — they were married twice and together since 1991 — Newman’s survivors include his niece, author-journalist Judith Newman, and many nephews.
