Artificial intelligence (AI) is picking up pace rapidly, and now its regulation is deemed necessary by many. Policymakers across countries are now seen indulging in conversations about evolving technology. Lawmakers in the United States are reportedly moving towards regulations for AI, seeking transparency and securing innovation.

Two bipartisan bills introduced by different US Senators recently talked about maintaining transparency and innovation within artificial intelligence. The first bill aims at transparency with the usage of AI technology by the government. Democratic Senator Gary Peters and Republican Senators Mike Braun and James Lankford introduced the bill on Thursday, June 8.

The bill notes that since government agencies in the United States use AI to interact with the public, they would need to inform them in advance. In addition, people should also be allowed to appeal to AI-made decisions.

While noting the importance of AI regulations, Indiana Senator Braun stated that for the utilization of AI, the federal government requires it to act “proactive and transparent.” It’s important that even though the decisions made by the AI, they should not progress without human interference and involvement.

Another bill, which Democratic Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Warner and Republican Senator Todd Young, calls for an Office of Global Competition Analysis. The official division was said to intend to keep the country in the leading position regarding the development of AI technology.

Colorado Senator Bennet stated about the bill that the US can’t get behind in terms of “strategic technologies like semiconductors, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence” from other countries on the international level.

The United States has already been lagging behind many countries in terms of crypto regulations. Though many believe it to be crucial, the implementation process is still unable to pick a notable pace. The country is leading in terms of most crypto users, and native users hold the majority of global crypto capitalization. Yet, the lack of proper regulations or clarity on regulations stifles the sector’s progress.

AI Regulation Becoming a Global Concern

Concerns around artificial intelligence and its regulations are growing rapidly worldwide. United Kingdom officials have expressed their stance on the technology and suggested their regulation to avoid mishaps and get benefits. One official reported that the AI models need to be regulated like medicine and nuclear power industries get regulated.

Another official, the United Kingdom Prime Minister’s AI Task Force advisor, brought insights into the industry and brought up the requirement of implementing regulations over AI. During an interview with the local media outlet, the crucial part of his conversation was the timeline of two years to enforce these regulations.

The conversation went on to point out the destructive outcomes if artificial intelligence does not get late regulations. Though the official was talking about regulation, proper management was said to bring many benefits in the years to come.
